In a recent study conducted by independent market research firm CITE Research, the opportunities for small businesses to outpace larger companies with more traditional processes have been revealed. The three main factors highlighted in the study are the untapped potential of artificial intelligence (AI), skills in the fields of IT and cybersecurity, and the convenience provided by digital platforms.
The study surveyed 1,000 technology professionals in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy to gather insights on trends in AI, skill shortages, and digital transformations. The findings of the research are as follows:
- Artificial intelligence is expected to rapidly transform the industry and society, with small businesses taking the lead. By leveraging the capabilities of AI, small businesses have the opportunity to gain a competitive advantage.
- While 84% of businesses allow the use of AI and 68% have utilized chatbots, other more impactful capabilities such as machine-assisted design, integrations, and machine learning are expected to significantly improve user efficiency.
- 64% of respondents agree that it is now more challenging to find employees with the required skills to compete. This highlights the importance of upskilling to stay competitive.
- 73% express concerns about cybersecurity issues, yet only 40% have employees with the necessary skills to address these concerns.
- The consequences of skill gaps in cybersecurity include higher costs, security issues, slower market circulation, and lower revenues. This reveals areas for improvement for smaller businesses by acquiring the relevant skills.
- 87% of organizations have room for improvement in their digital transformation. Over a third of large companies face obstacles in implementing and managing digital transformation, presenting an opportunity for smaller businesses to benefit from digital platforms.
These research findings are highly applicable to the discussions and collaboration that will take place at the 3DEXPERIENCE World, an annual event by Dassault Systèmes dedicated to the community of users of SOLIDWORKS and 3DEXPERIENCE Works. Companies and professionals will gather to explore and harness the opportunities provided by AI and digital transformation.
